Perception is everything, isn't it.

When you look at this picture, do you see weeds or
flowers?

What if I told you a very sweet three year old boy went out in his yard and picked these especially for his grandma?

Perception is everything, isn't it.

I'll admit, when I look at my yard and see these yellow flowers peppered throughout the grass, it doesn't make me happy. They are a weed by all standards. Unless of course, one does not know that standard.

Imagine if you will, not being familiar with dandelions popping up in unwanted places. You see a yard of green and yellow for the first time and you think its
b e a u t i f u l.

Until someone tells you they are not a welcomed flower here in Washington.

Be Courageous, Be Brilliant, Be You

Sue

Give yourself some space to feel...

But....

Won't it make me weak if I cry?

I'm disappointed and I 'shouldn't' feel this way.

Won't God be mad at me for being angry about ...

I'm 'not suppose' to feel envy.

I'm afraid if I allow these feelings, I'll never quit.

Truth is -

Crying doesn't make a person weak.

It takes a lot of strength to be vulnerable. To allow yourself to be true with you.

God already knows what we are feeling. Not saying it out loud or allowing it to surface, doesn't keep it from God.

Here's the thing -

When my clients let those feelings out in a safe and supportive place, they are able to release them.

Or there is a something under that emotion or feeling that is being masked. By allowing and leaning into the emotion they uncover the root and are able to go deeper.

This takes practice -

Debbie was upset with her husband. They'd had a tiff about something silly. She sat thinking, "how could he be so mean to me?" Taking herself out of the victim role, Debbie asked herself, "why is this really bugging me?"

This was a new process for Debbie.

Instead of analyzing or trying to fix the current situation, she gave herself the same respect and love she would one of her friends or loved ones.

She was gentle and non judgmental with herself. Through the process she realized she was holding on to some feelings from something that happened at work earlier in the week.

Exposing the feelings gave them less power. They were no longer festering underneath the surface.

The more we engage with this process and allow ourselves to connect with our inner core, the true you, the easier it becomes.

You can't deal with something until you are aware of it. We can't become aware if we mask or cover up the truth. This often happens out of habit. It's the way we've done it for years.

We can change the habit and create a new one. One of awareness, acceptance and love.

And good news...by becoming aware of our feelings we'll start to notice even more of the good ones too.

Feelings of gratitude, laughter and love.

Go ahead and feel those feelings and give yourself some love. You're worth it!

Four Ways to Increase Your Energy

In the Live Your Purpose Program we spend an entire module on increasing your energy. This is a transforming module with big a-ha's and mounds of increased energy by those who put the following practices into action. And with the beautiful fall colors surrounding us here in Washington, a gentle tug that the holidays are just around the corner is being felt, which makes this a  perfect time to share four ways to increase your energy.

Lets look at how Debbie uses the tools for the holiday season.

  1. - Clarity.

Clarity uses your creativity. Now that's exciting! Creativity puts you in a position of being pro-active vs re-active.

Debbie takes a half hour of her day and looks at the next three months. In this case the holiday season. She asks herself the following questions:

During these next three months -

What's important to me?

How do I want to show up?

How do I want to feel?

What would I like to experience?

Come the end of December what would be the very best outcome?

Mind you, Debbie doesn't just run through these questions in her mind. She takes the time to sit with them and allow the answers to truly resonate with her. She writes them down which helps her to remember them and stay focused on what's important. Debbie also knows that writing down her goals and setting an intention has been proven to increase the benefits and outcome.

   2. Saying No and Setting Boundaries:

Debbie now knows what she can say yes to and gives herself permission to say no to the activities and events that are not in line with her clarity. This will save Debbie tons of physical as well as mental energy. By putting boundaries around her family, business/work and time, Debbie will give her full attention to the activities she is engaged in. This is not only an energy saver for Debbie but a gift to those who she is engaged with because she is present and grounded in who she is and what she has to offer. It's like offering someone a half of an ice cream cone vs a full cone. She's a full cone kinda girl.

  3. Conquering Clutter:

This includes physical clutter as well as mental clutter. Knowing that digging in deep and spending the next week, 12 hours a day clearing physical clutter isn't in her best interest for increased energy, each day Debbie removes a bag or box of clutter from her surroundings. Because of her clarity she can ask herself the question, "does this/these item(s) support my energy for this holiday season. Is this item or items something I will use within this period of time or am I holding onto them for someday?" If the answer is someday, Debbie decides to give the items to someone or a charity that can use them now.

As for the mental clutter, Debbie begins really listening to what she is saying to herself as well as to others. She eliminates words like, need -should - have to- as well as complaining. She begins to replace this language with empowering words like, I choose to -today I will -I am and instead of complaining, Debbie asks for help when needed and sets the intention to communicate clearly.

  4. Self-Care:

All too often this becomes the last thing people put into practice. When this happens it's like having an empty pitcher of water and offering your guest something to drink. There just isn't anything there to give.

Knowing how important this is to maintaining her energy, Debbie schedules time for self-care into her calendar in advance. She makes a commitment to honor herself and those she loves by following through with the appointments.

Debbie creates a list of things that bring her joy and implements at least one a week. By being pro-active in her planning, Debbie is more likely to do the things that increase her energy as opposed to mindless energy wasters.

Debbie has now set herself up for this wonderful holiday season ahead.

How about you? What's important to you during the holidays?

Are You Holding Back on Your Creativity?

Creativity lives and breathes in each of us. Many of us express our creativity through art: painting, writing, drawing, etc. If you are feeling stuck in your creative journey, ask yourself if any of the following three things are what is keeping you stuck.. If you're flying high and creating like a superstar, go, go, go!

Comparison: this often shows up in the form of searching the internet. Looking at all that amazing talent out there, and then comparing yourself with that talent. This will stop your creative flow right in it's tracks. Stop looking at what others are doing and start listening to yourself. Trust your own creativity. And if you are telling yourself you are "getting inspired," ask yourself if this is really true. Use the time you spend surfing for inspiration to feed your own creativity with a nap, going to bed early, spending time with family, a walk outdoors, one of things on your "I wish I did" list.

Perfectionism: Do it and do it imperfectly. This is the best way to learn to do it better. Move forward and honor your creativity. If a Mother gave her child an ice cream cone and the child didn't want it because the cone was bent or the scoop not round enough, would that mother be excited to give the child another ice cream cone the next time they were at the ice cream shop? Probably not. Let's say the child got really excited about that ice cream cone, imperfections and all. The next time Mom and Child passed the ice cream shop I bet Mom would be thrilled to buy her child another cone. In other words, if you're always disappointed in our art, writing, in your creativity because it's not perfect, why would your creativity want to come out to play?

Doing what 'should' be done: There are SO many "shoulds". I have a friend who has a sign above her kitchen sink that says "though shall not should themselves". I have to agree. When you're growing up, you go to school, you get married. After you get married, you have children. Somewhere in there you buy a house. These are often categorized as 'normal'. To hell with normal. You are not normal and thank you for that. You are an amazing original. You are a creative being. When your creativity wants to play outside the box, do it. Engage in the power of play.

Speaking of Creativity and the Power of Play, how does your creativity live and breathe?
