It's a goal and dream of mine to art journal on a regular basis. The beauty of the internet is meeting and finding artist that are doing just that. When I came across Kate's pages and beautiful blog, I couldn't resist sending her an invite to be our guest artist. Thank you Kate for sharing your beautiful pages and wonderful story with us. The colors and composition make me want to dance!
Although I have made things all of my life, art became more
and more important to me, especially after I had my children and found that I
had a little time on my hands while I wasn’t at work. Over the years my art has become more and more important to me,
and the work/life balance has become increasingly difficult because by choice I
would spend all day every day painting in my art journal.

I discovered art journaling in 2008 and have never looked back. Journaling gives a meaning to my art which I always felt was missing previously. I love having a collection of colourful, inky, painty, messy art journals, bulging at the seems full of mixed media creativity, that I can flick back though whenever I feel like it (and I do, frequently!) I’m completely self-taught and by looking back through my journals I really can recognize the artful journey that I have been on.

I like to work in Moleskine sketchbooks and have them in
various sizes. Working in a sketchbook with fixed pages forces me to finish
each page and resist the urge to tear a page out because it is not looking how
I want it to. I’m a born perfectionist but I’m working to overcome it, and
accept my limitations and imperfections. I’m learning that to do things ‘right’
you sometimes have to get them ‘wrong’.

I like to journal as often as I can and just to make sure I never miss a day I create a calendar page every month with a small square for each day. The double page spread takes me a long time to make each month, but filling each day takes only a couple of minutes, and it’s wonderful to have a personal record of daily life.

I love to teach art and craft classes, have contributed to
several wonderful magazines, have been on some wonderful Design Teams, and have
had two art journaling DVDs published.
I still feel like I have so much more to give but I’m still not quite sure
which direction I’m going in ….. watch this space …….

Love this feature and your blog. I'll be back.
Kate's pages are so colorful and "textureful."
My favorite thing about art journaling is looking back at pages and recalling exactly what my mind was working through at the time.
